Linear Economy Model versus Circular Economy

Linear economy is a conventional economic model in which raw materials are gathered and converted into products consumed by individuals until eventually discarded as waste, without consideration for their environmental impact and sustainability. Consequences, is a linear economy.?? Unfortunately, most goods end up in landfills within this economic model of take-make- dispose. This is because, in a linear economy, we take raw materials from natural resources, use them to make products, sell them, and once the products have reached the end of their life, we dispose of them.

    Circular economy

    Circular economy

The concept of the circular economy is very different from the linear economy. The concept of the circular economy aims to minimize material consumption by reconfiguring materials to require fewer resources, consequently transforming what was once considered "waste" into a valuable resource for the creation of novel materials and products.

What advantages does the circular economy offer over the linear economy?
What advantages does the circular economy offer over the linear economy?

The linear economy poses an environmental drawback as it trades product production for ecological integrity. This approach places undue strain on ecosystems, endangering vital services like clean water, air, and soil. In contrast, the circular economy operates in a smoother and more sustainable manner. Within this framework, waste transcends its traditional label and becomes a valuable resource. There is no longer produce, consume and then throw it away model. This conserves natural resources, lowers CO2 emissions, and contributes to environmental preservation. It inspires innovation, new business activity, and employment. The key focus of this economy is to maintain the added value of material while eliminating waste as best as possible.
